A significant increase in glaucoma cases among individuals aged 40 and older in the UK is projected, rising from 1.1 million currently to over 1.6 million by 2060, as published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology. This chronic eye disease, which often remains asymptomatic until later stages, shows high prevalence rates in older adults, especially those aged 85 and above and among certain ethnic groups. The study underscores the need for early detection and increased resources to manage this growing health burden.
