New Meta-Analysis Updates Vitamin D Evidence

Share

Daily vitamin D supplementation in children aged 1 to 15 years may be associated with a reduced risk of acute respiratory infections, as indicated by a recent systematic review and meta-analysis. However, no overall protective effect was observed across all age groups, and the updated findings suggest that current evidence does not support the routine use of vitamin D solely for the prevention of acute respiratory infections. Lead study author, David A. Jolliffe, PhD, and colleagues concluded that no statistically significant reduction in ARI risk with vitamin D supplementation was demonstrated.
