Fitting Multifocal Scleral Lenses For Unilateral Central Corneal Scar

Share

A 55-year-old female with a unilateral central corneal scar presented for specialty contact lens consultation. She had unsatisfactory vision and discomfort with current contact lenses due to long-standing dryness and a history of central corneal ulcer resulting in the scar. Scleral lenses were fitted bilaterally, addressing both vision rehabilitation and dry eye relief, and incorporating multifocal optics. The patient reported significant improvement in vision, comfort, and dry eye symptoms with the scleral lenses. This case emphasizes the benefits of bilateral scleral lens wear for patients with unilateral corneal irregularity.
