A recent study published in JASA Express Letters highlights that sound quality is a more significant predictor of quality of life for adults with cochlear implants than speech recognition. The research, involving 41 adults aged 18 to 80, showed that sound quality ratings accounted for up to 50% of the variance in Cochlear Implant Quality of Life scores. Even when factors such as communication and emotional well-being were considered, sound quality independently impacted satisfaction levels more than intelligibility metrics.
