The research published in JAMA Dermatology by French researchers identifies an association between high consumption of ultraprocessed foods (UPF) and active psoriasis. The study involving 18,528 participants from the Nutri-Net-Santé cohort revealed that individuals with the highest UPF intake displayed higher rates of active psoriasis compared to those with lower consumption. The investigation also showed associations between active psoriasis and demographic factors, physical activity, and comorbidities. Despite study limitations, the findings emphasize the need for larger-scale studies to further investigate the role of UPF in psoriasis onset.
1. High consumption of ultraprocessed foods (UPF) associated with active psoriasis. 2. 18,528 participants analyzed with the highest UPF intake showing higher rates of active psoriasis. 3. Associations found between active psoriasis and obesity, physical activity, and comorbidities. 4. Study limitations include differences in study population dietary habits and cross-sectional design. 5. Need for larger-scale studies to investigate UPF's role in psoriasis onset.
