Are Oncologists Using Mental Health Services?

Share

A recent analysis published in JAMA Network Open, led by Koral Blunt, MD, from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, highlights that oncologists billed for less than 1% of Medicare's integrated mental health services from 2018 to 2024, despite rising national utilization. Depression and anxiety are prevalent in cancer patients, negatively impacting their treatment outcomes and quality of life. The study identifies barriers such as operational constraints and administrative complexity that hinder better integration of mental health services within oncology practices.
