Prednisolone Linked to Metabolic Benefits

Share

A randomized crossover trial indicates that low-dose prednisolone taken once daily may provide some cardiometabolic benefits compared to thrice-daily hydrocortisone for patients with adrenal insufficiency. Involving 46 participants, the study measured bone turnover and cardiometabolic outcomes over 120-day periods. Prednisolone showed a slower bone turnover and improvements in body weight and glycated hemoglobin, though no differences were noted in subjective health outcomes. Researchers stress that more extensive investigations are needed to assess long-term implications.
