Childhood Oral Health Linked to Adult Cardiovascular Risk

Share

A nationwide Danish cohort study has revealed a connection between poor oral health in childhood and an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in adulthood. Analyzing data from over 568,000 individuals, researchers found that higher levels of dental caries and gingivitis in childhood were significantly associated with greater incidence rates of ASCVD later in life. Notably, male participants with severe childhood dental caries faced a 32% higher incidence of ASCVD, while females saw a 45% increase. The study emphasizes the need to understand the long-term impacts of oral health, linking oral diseases to systemic health through inflammation and bacterial spread.
