New Data Challenges Pediatric Sinusitis Treatment Guidelines

Share

The review study published in JAMA challenges existing guidelines for treating pediatric patients with acute bacterial rhinosinusitis. It suggests that broader-spectrum antibiotics like amoxicillin-clavulanate may not be necessary for most cases, as amoxicillin alone may suffice in many pediatric patients. The study advocates for a 'watchful waiting' approach for patients with nonsevere symptoms and concludes that national guidelines for pediatric patients with acute bacterial rhinosinusitis need updating to reflect the evolving evidence.
