May OPO Perfusion Expand Liver Use?

Share

A recent study demonstrated that a portable hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (HMP-O2) strategy, initiated by a regional organ procurement organization, allowed for successful liver transplantations from higher-risk donor organs. Researchers evaluated 18 patients who received liver allografts through this method, achieving 100% patient and graft survival at a median follow-up of 449 days. Notably, outcomes remained consistent among different donor types, despite variations in preservation times and slight adverse events. The study highlights the potential for organ procurement organizations to effectively implement this strategy.
