A large Stockholm study reveals that individuals with long COVID may face a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease, regardless of the severity of their initial infection. Analyzed data from over 1.2 million adults showed that approximately 9,000 had long COVID, with 20% of women experiencing cardiovascular events compared to 10% without the condition. The link between long COVID and increased cardiovascular events persisted even after adjusting for other risk factors. This underscores the necessity for careful monitoring of cardiovascular health in long COVID patients during routine clinical care.
