Predictor of Tobacco Use Identified

Share

The PATH study reveals a significant connection between cannabis use and the likelihood of progressing to regular tobacco use among U.S. adolescents and young adults. Conducted on 13,851 participants, the research found that 13% of new regular tobacco users in 2021 could be attributed to cannabis use, amounting to approximately 509,800 individuals. Notably, 32.7% of adolescents who reported cannabis use in 2017 transitioned to regular tobacco use by 2021, suggesting that cannabis prevention should be a focus in tobacco control initiatives.
