Neck Swelling, Dysphagia, and Jaw Pain: What’s Your Diagnosis?

Share

An 86-year-old woman with end-stage kidney disease experienced jaw pain, dysphagia, and a right submandibular mass, which led to the discovery of a carotid artery pseudoaneurysm caused by a Staphylococcus aureus infection. Imaging revealed a notable 14-mm pseudoaneurysm and signs of septic arthritis. Initial treatment included empirical antibiotics, followed by vascular surgery due to increased size of the pseudoaneurysm. Atypical lipomatous tumor was also identified in her thigh. Both surgical interventions were successful.
