Rebuilding Corneal Care in Ukraine

Share

Eye Care in Ukraine, established in 2021, aims to mitigate preventable blindness exacerbated by war. Initially focused on supplies, from early 2022, the organization has pursued access to cornea tissues, known as cornea bioimplants, which were registered by the Health Ministry in 2025. The collaboration with local ophthalmologists is pivotal as the demand for cornea transplants rises due to increased eye trauma in military personnel. Training future surgeons and developing eye banking infrastructure are critical for sustaining these efforts.
