Cystoid macular edema, often caused by proinflammatory cytokines altering retinal capillary endothelium or the retinal pigment epithelium, leads to permanent vision loss if untreated. Detection and treatment options, including steroids, systemic steroid-sparing agents, and anti-VEGF agents, play crucial roles in managing macular edema and preserving vision. Various treatments like periocular and intravitreal steroids, intravitreal corticosteroid implants, and systemic therapies, such as antimetabolites or TNF inhibitors, show promise in treating uveitic macular edema.
