Artificial Tears Reduce Dryness Symptoms in 1-Month Study

Share

A prospective multicenter study in Spain examined the effects of preservative-free artificial tears, specifically Systane Complete, on ocular dryness symptoms in adults aged 18 to 65 years. Over one month, patients used the drops four times daily, resulting in significant improvement in both subjective measurements (OSDI and DEQ-5 scores) and objective signs such as conjunctival and limbal hyperemia. While symptom improvement was noted across various age groups, potential confounding factors like environmental influences were also assessed. Limitations of the study include the lack of a control group and a predominance of women in the sample.
