Severe Infection: Are Hidden Immune Signals Emerging?

Share

A recent study has identified four endotypes related to sepsis and critical illnesses, including an inflammopathic profile linked to severe outcomes and increased mortality. Analyzing over 7,000 blood samples showed that higher myeloid dysregulation scores correlated with greater illness severity across various conditions. The study utilized large transcriptomic analysis and single-cell RNA sequencing to uncover immune cell dynamics, culminating in the Hi-DEF scoring system that predicts mortality risk. Lead author Andrew R. Moore emphasizes the potential of these findings for advancing molecular endotyping in critical care. Further validation is needed for clinical application.
