National Leadership in Fontan Outcomes Research
A landmark study led by Phoenix Children’s Dr. Deepti Bhat and collaborators has been published in Circulation, one of the most highly regarded and influential journals in cardiovascular medicine.
A landmark study published in Circulation involved 1,121 patients across 38 congenital heart centers in the U.S. and Canada, focusing on Fontan outcomes. Conducted with contributions from Dr. Deepti Bhat of Phoenix Children’s, the study found nearly 60% of participants experienced Fontan-related adverse events. The prevalence of arrhythmias increased with age, and over one-third faced mental health issues such as anxiety. Findings highlight the need for comprehensive, coordinated care and proactive surveillance for patients with complex congenital heart disease.
