Higher H. pylori Prevalence Seen in Severe Psoriasis

Share

A recent study examined the association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and psoriasis by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis. The study found that patients with psoriasis are nearly twice as likely to have H. pylori infection compared to those without the condition. The prevalence rates were 50.3% in the psoriasis group compared to 36.8% in controls. It was found that psoriasis severity correlated with H. pylori prevalence, with moderate-to-severe cases exhibiting higher infection rates than mild cases. The researchers suggested that bactericidal therapy could benefit patients, particularly those with moderate-to-severe psoriasis, as part of a combination treatment approach.
