Manual IVF Screening May Miss Additional Oocytes

Share

A multicenter clinical study published in Nature Medicine reveals that the manual screening of follicular fluid during in vitro fertilization (IVF) may overlook additional oocytes, including those capable of fertilization. Researchers employed an automated microfluidic device (FIND-Chip) that successfully recovered extra oocytes from previously screened samples, resulting in viable embryos and even a live birth. The system, which isolates oocytes based on size rather than visual inspection, significantly enhanced the number of usable oocytes, raising important efficiency and outcome questions in IVF procedures.
