Diabetic retinopathy remains a significant cause of preventable blindness, particularly in low-resource settings, as evidenced by a study at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital in Northern Uganda. Here, only 46.8% of adults with diabetes had undergone eye examinations within five years, despite recommendations for regular screenings. Factors such as socioeconomic constraints and health literacy greatly influence access to eye care services. Enhanced awareness about the ocular complications of diabetes could improve screening rates, necessitating a collaborative approach among healthcare providers to integrate eye care into diabetes management.
