Anesthesiologist Facing Attempted Murder Charges

A 46-year-old anesthesiologist, Gerhardt Konig, has been apprehended by law enforcement after allegedly assaulting his spouse at a popular hiking location in Hawaii. The victim sustained serious head and multiple facial injuries and was transported to a nearby emergency room. Konig has been suspended from the Medical Staff pending investigation by Maui Health, where he practices anesthesiology. He has been identified as an attending anesthesiologist and an assistant professor of anesthesiology and bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh, although the university has confirmed that he has not been affiliated with them for more than two years. Charges against Konig are pending, and the Nu'uanu Pali State Wayside has been closed indefinitely due to the police activity.
