Income, BMI Linked to Colon Capsule Completion
Danish screening data identify clinical and socioeconomic factors that significantly influence whether colon capsule exams are completed.
A study from the CareForColon2015 trial evaluated factors affecting completion rates of colon capsule examinations among 1,472 colorectal cancer screening participants in Southern Denmark. Findings indicate higher income and certain behavioral factors, such as smoking and moderate alcohol intake, correlate with a greater likelihood of completing the exams. Inadequate bowel preparation led to 24% of incomplete exams, while severe obesity and recent constipation negatively impacted completion rates. The trial underscores the importance of understanding these factors for improving screening approaches.
