Dr. Matthew R. Zilbelman presented research at the 2026 ASCO Genitourinary Cancers Symposium demonstrating that combining visual inspection of the bladder with blood tests for circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) can more accurately predict remaining cancer in bladder cancer patients post-treatment. This dual approach may help identify patients who can forgo cystectomy, reducing unnecessary surgeries. The study found that this method enhanced detection to 95% accuracy, far surpassing traditional methods, and significantly improved patient prognosis regarding cancer recurrence and survival.
