Optical Genome Mapping Detects Additional Genetic Variants in Nearly 20% of Individuals With Acute Leukemia

Share

A study published in The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics by Tara Spence et al. reveals that optical genome mapping (OGM) significantly enhances the detection of genetic alterations in acute leukemia patients. In a cohort of 200 patients, OGM identified over 640 genetic variants, surpassing the 444 detected by standard tests, with nearly 20% of cases revealing critical abnormalities previously missed. While not a complete replacement for existing tests, OGM complements them, improving diagnostics and treatment planning by offering a comprehensive genomic view.
