Timely Scans May Reduce Mortality in Patients Who Present to the ER With Hematuria

Share

Research from the WASHOUT study reveals that 10% of emergency patients with visible hematuria may die within three months. Conducted by Nikita R. Bhatt, the study presented at EAU26 shows that swift scanning within 48 hours not only reduces mortality rates but also facilitates quicker cancer diagnoses, particularly bladder cancer. With 25% of hematuria cases linked to cancer, inconsistencies in care highlight the need for real-world guidelines. A prompt CT or cystoscopy can be critical for effective management and outcomes.
