A recent study led by Na Liu, PhD, at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, developed a classification of metabolic subtypes for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Utilizing samples from two phase III trials, the research identified three subtypes (MS1, MS2, MS3) that demonstrate varying responses to PD-1 inhibition combined with chemoradiotherapy in locoregionally advanced disease. The results indicate significant event-free survival improvements with PD-1 therapy in patients with subtype MS1, highlighting the potential for personalized treatment strategies.
