A recent systematic review and meta-analysis in JAMA Dermatology led by Sara Laiouar-Pedari evaluated the diagnostic performance of AI-assisted dermoscopy for melanoma detection, using 11 prospective studies that included over 2,500 patients and more than 50 dermatologists. The results indicated that AI systems could achieve comparable, if not superior, accuracy compared to dermatologists, with pooled sensitivities of 80.9% and 78.6%, respectively. However, the study identified significant risks of bias in the current research, suggesting further validation is necessary for clinical implementation.
