Prompting Strategies May Improve Symptom Monitoring in Childhood Cancer Survivors

Share

Researchers from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital have demonstrated that utilizing advanced prompting strategies with large language models, specifically ChatGPT-4o and Llama-3.1, can enhance the interpretation of pain and fatigue reports from childhood cancer survivors. By analyzing 819 narratives from young survivors and their caregivers, the study identified that sophisticated prompting significantly improved the models' ability to classify symptom impact on daily function, thereby aiding physicians in real-time decision-making and care improvements.
