Japanese Study Looks at Rates of Cancer Therapy–Related AML

Share

A recent population-based study from Japan indicates a concerning rise in therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (tAML) among cancer survivors, particularly after breast cancer treatment. The analysis of data from the Osaka Cancer Registry, involving nearly 10,000 patients diagnosed with AML between 1990 and 2020, found tAML incidence rates increased from 0.13 to 0.36 per 100,000 population. The study highlights the changing landscape of tAML development and calls for increased awareness as cancer survivorship grows, according to lead author Kenji Kishimoto, MD, PhD.
