Five Gynecologic Conditions Linked with Bladder Pain

Share

An international team of researchers has identified five gynecologic conditions frequently coexisting with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), advocating for multidisciplinary care in managing chronic pelvic pain. IC/BPS is characterized by persistent pelvic discomfort lasting over six weeks without identifiable causes, predominantly affecting individuals assigned female at birth. The identified comorbidities are endometriosis, adenomyosis, vulvodynia, female sexual dysfunction, and overactive pelvic floor muscles, highlighting shared inflammatory mechanisms. Treatment requires a collaborative approach among various healthcare professionals.
