Children With OSA Face Higher Influenza, COVID-19 Risk

Share

A large retrospective cohort study reveals that children diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) have a significantly heightened risk of contracting influenza and COVID-19 over five years. Analyzing data from over a million children, those with OSA were about twice as likely to be diagnosed with these infections compared to peers without OSA. The findings suggest persistent immune dysregulation in pediatric OSA could contribute to increased viral susceptibility, highlighting the importance of prioritizing vaccinations in this vulnerable population.
