Retrorectal Surgery Linked to Low Recurrence

Share

A 25-year retrospective cohort study investigating surgical resection of retrorectal tumors revealed an impressive 5-year recurrence-free survival rate of 98% and a local recurrence rate of only 3%. Conducted at a tertiary referral center, the study encompassed 61 patients, primarily women with a mean age of 47 years. It evaluated the implications of preoperative biopsy in treatment decisions made between 2000 and 2025. Most tumors were benign, with tailgut cysts being the most common diagnosis, while significant complications were rare.
