Intermittent Fasting Shows No Edge Over Standard Diets

Share

A Cochrane systematic review analyzed 22 randomized controlled trials with 1995 participants, examining the efficacy of intermittent fasting compared to traditional dietary recommendations for weight loss in adults with overweight or obesity. Conducted between 2016 and 2024 across various countries, the review found negligible difference in mean body weight reduction between the two methods, with a mean difference of −0.33%. Evidence regarding adverse events and quality of life remained uncertain. The authors suggest evaluating individual practicality for intermittent fasting as a treatment approach.
