A study published in JAMA Network Open highlights sex-specific differences in cardiometabolic risk factors that affect the likelihood of clinically significant liver fibrosis among US adults. Analyzing NHANES data from 2017 to 2020, researchers found higher odds of significant fibrosis in women linked to central adiposity, glucose intolerance, and the presence of multiple cardiometabolic conditions, despite lower overall prevalence in women. The study urges reevaluation of fibrosis assessment approaches, taking these differences into account.
