Recent research conducted by a team from Boston Children’s Hospital and affiliated institutions has highlighted distinct chemical signatures of pathological tau protein across various neurodegenerative diseases. Utilizing a novel technique called FLEXITau, researchers analyzed post-mortem brain tissue from 203 individuals affected by six different tauopathies, including Alzheimer's disease and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. This study emphasizes that each tauopathy has a unique combination of post-translational modifications and cleavage patterns, providing crucial insights for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
