SEE Program Strengthens Adherence
Personalized glaucoma coaching program boosts medication adherence and reduces stress in randomized trial
A structured coaching program based on motivational interviewing significantly enhanced medication adherence and decreased glaucoma-related distress in adults, according to the Support, Educate, Empower (SEE) trial published in JAMA Ophthalmology. This study, which involved 235 participants from the University of Michigan and Henry Ford Health System, demonstrated that the SEE intervention, combining personalized education with support from nonphysician coaches, yielded an adherence rate increase from 64% to 78%, while reducing distress scores markedly over six months. The results advocate for the efficacy of personalized interventions over standard education approaches.
