ADHD Diagnosis Timing Linked to School Outcomes

Share

A study involving over 580,000 Finnish youths has highlighted the impact of the timing of ADHD diagnoses on educational outcomes. Early diagnosis, particularly in the school years, was linked to superior academic performance, increased chances of pursuing academic tracks, and a lower dropout risk. In contrast, later diagnoses, especially closer to age 16, were associated with poorer educational trajectories. Males experienced a greater decline in GPA with age at diagnosis than females. The results advocate for timely ADHD interventions to enhance youth educational prospects.
