Premature Menopause Tied to Higher Lifetime CHD Risk

Share

A large US cohort study indicates that premature menopause, defined as menopause occurring before age 40, correlates with a 40% increased lifetime risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) among Black and White women. This prospective analysis of 3,522 Black and 6,514 White women aged 55 to 69 revealed that those experiencing premature menopause had significantly higher CHD event rates. Researchers highlighted similar risk magnitudes across racial groups, despite demographic factors and health conditions. The findings underscore the relevance of reproductive health in assessing cardiovascular disease risk.
