COVID-19 Increases Autoimmune Blistering Disease Risk, Study Finds

Share

A retrospective cohort study involving over 112 million patients revealed that COVID-19 infections are associated with an increased risk of autoimmune blistering diseases (AIBD), particularly pemphigus. Conversely, COVID-19 vaccination was linked to a nearly halved risk of AIBD, emphasizing the protective effects of vaccination. The study's design had limitations, but it underscored the importance of monitoring autoimmune diseases post-COVID-19 infection and promoting the broader benefits of vaccination beyond infection prevention.
