A prospective study from a Canadian tertiary care center has demonstrated the effectiveness of optical genome mapping (OGM) as a first-line diagnostic test for adult acute leukemia. When analyzed alongside traditional methods such as karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and next-generation sequencing (NGS), OGM achieved remarkable specificity and sensitivity rates, detecting a broader range of structural variants. In a clinical cohort of 200 leukemia cases, OGM not only identified additional clinically significant findings but also contributed to risk stratification and diagnostic reclassification in several instances, particularly for B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
