1. Children may need 3 months or longer to achieve optimal recovery after a concussion, especially female children. 2. A comprehensive assessment approach encompassing physical, cognitive, socioemotional, and resilience domains is emphasized. 3. The study enrolled 967 children aged 8 to 17 years, including 633 with concussion and 334 with orthopedic injury. 4. At the 10-day follow-up, children with concussion showed a lower rate of optimal functioning compared with those with orthopedic injury. 5. Longitudinal multivariable modeling revealed that time, injury group, and sex were all significant factors associated with optimal functioning.
