Low DLCO/SB Linked to Faster SSc Progression

Share

A retrospective longitudinal study involving 73 patients revealed that lower baseline diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO/SB) is linked to a higher risk of progressing to systemic sclerosis (SSc) and a quicker transition in individuals with early-stage disease. Over five years, 12% of patients progressed to definite SSc, with notably higher rates among those with DLCO/SB below 70%. Other factors such as SSc-specific antibodies also played a role in progression, but no variable emerged as a significant independent predictor.
