West Virginia Gains Scope of Practice Expansion

Share

West Virginia has passed Senate Bill 565, enabling optometrists to use ophthalmic lasers, expanding essential eye care services for patients, particularly those in rural areas, and increasing access to optometrist-performed procedures for Medicare beneficiaries. The law, effective from July 9, 2025, is expected to alleviate the need for long-distance travel and reduce appointment wait times for eye care, holding potential benefits for public health and West Virginia families.
