Uveitis, a potentially sight-threatening condition, is linked to systemic immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) in a significant manner. A study utilizing an extensive electronic health record database analyzed the bidirectional relationship between uveitis and 12 IMIDs, finding that patients diagnosed with IMIDs exhibited a higher risk of developing uveitis. Notably, patients with uveitis also showed increased chances of having prior IMIDs, and a tendency to develop new IMIDs within five years. This highlights the need for interdisciplinary collaboration between ophthalmologists and rheumatologists.
