A single-blind crossover randomized clinical trial investigated the impact of salt-based nicotine in e-cigarettes on young adult users. The study found higher nicotine intake, increased addiction potential with menthol flavoring and higher nicotine concentrations, and compensatory puffing behaviors associated with e-cigarette use. Notably, salt-based nicotine led to significantly higher plasma nicotine levels and more positive subjective effects compared to freebase nicotine. The findings underscore the potential risks associated with the use of e-cigarettes, particularly among young adult users.
