A 20-year cohort study published in RMD Open observed a higher risk of severe multimorbidity among patients with osteoarthritis. The study, which included 9,846 osteoarthritis patients and age-matched controls, identified four distinct classes of multimorbidity progression, with osteoarthritis associated with a higher risk of severe multimorbidity. The findings suggest the importance of comprehensive health care strategies addressing the extensive impact of osteoarthritis beyond joint health, potentially mitigating multimorbidity in this patient population.
