The World Council of Optometry (WCO) and Alcon have renewed their educational partnership to enhance understanding and management of dry eye disease, acknowledging its rising prevalence due to increased screen use and environmental factors. The initiative emphasizes mitigation, measurement, and management, offering resources and clinical tools for optometrists worldwide. This collaboration, now entering its fourth year, stems from the need for effective training as dry eye affects 1.6 billion people globally, potentially diminishing visual function and quality of life. WCO President, Cindy Tromans, and Alcon's Carla Mack stressed the importance of empowering optometrists to engage effectively with patients around dry eye care.
